The Department of Development has spent 14 years helping Ohio businesses expand into global markets while preparing students for high-demand careers through its Ohio Export Internship Program (OEIP). Companies interested in hosting a 2026 OEIP intern can apply now through January to participate. The students, matched with companies based on their skills and interests, gain hands-on experience in global trade while helping their host businesses strengthen export readiness and reach new markets. “This program shows the power of connecting talent with opportunity,” said Lt. Governor Jim Tressel. “Our students gain the skills to excel, and our businesses gain the expertise to expand internationally—it’s a win-win for Ohio.”
Participating companies must provide:
- Strategic commitment to growing an export market
- Existing or planned export budget
- Majority of intern projects focused on export processes
- Managerial guidance for the intern
- Compensation for internship position: full-time wages as an employee (W-2) for 12 weeks
- Benefits and paid time off are not required, but companies must comply with federal, state, and local laws
- Participation in program evaluation survey
