The City wants you to be aware of a phishing scam currently targeting individuals involved in development projects and permit applications. Several people have recently received fraudulent emails that appear as if they are from New Albany staff. These emails often include fake invoices—complete with logo—and direct recipients to wire funds as part of the permitting process. Please know that the City will never request payment via wire transfer, nor will we ask for payment outside of our secure, official channels. Our police department has been notified and is looking into the situation. In the meantime, we encourage you to remain vigilant and follow these safety tips from the New Albany Police Department:
- Verify the sender’s email address: Official City emails will come from @newalbanyohio.org address.
- Double-check with us: If you receive a payment request that seems suspicious, call our office directly at 614-939-2254 before taking action.
- Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unexpected emails.
- Never wire money based on an email request alone.
- Report suspicious emails to our IT team via IT@newalbanyohio.org.
We appreciate your attention to this matter and your continued partnership as we work to keep our community safe and secure. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
