New Amphitheater Will Add Cultural Asset in Heart of City

Construction has begun on the Charleen & Charles Hinson Amphitheater, adjacent to the McCoy Community Center for the Arts, and is expected to be completed next summer. The $7 million amphitheater will host resident arts organizations, including the New Albany Symphony Orchestra, as well as New Albany-Plain Local Schools student groups and community programs. It adds another significant cultural asset in walking distance to the 200-acre learning campus and Market Square.

Spearheaded by the New Albany Community Foundation, the amphitheater was funded through private donations, including a $600,000 leadership gift from the Hinson family, and $1 million allocation from the city. NAPLS extended a 50-year lease to the amphitheater for $10. The city will own and maintain the property. CAPA will manage operations at the venue which is expected to offer a diverse range of programs, from performance series and film presentations to community festivals. LEARN MORE
