Semiconductor Manufacturing

Anchored by Intel’s historic $28 billion investment, the Semiconductor Manufacturing cluster marks a critical expansion of semiconductor manufacturing in the United States.

The New Albany International Business Park is at the epicenter of the new “Silicon Heartland” designed to boost chip manufacturing to meet growing demand, strengthen the nation’s supply chain, and power a new generation of innovative products.

The largest private sector investment in Ohio’s history has become the catalyst for the development of the innovation cluster that is rapidly attracting companies in related industries. The vertically integrated supply chain offers triple-feed electric, robust fiber, a highly accessible location, and access to a skilled workforce. Intel has pledged $50 million toward partnerships with Ohio educational institutions to build a pipeline of talent and bolster research programs in the region. Another $50 million pledged by Intel was matched by the U.S. National Science Foundation.

The company has begun construction on an initial two leading-edge chip factories or fabs on the site. Spanning nearly 1,000 acres, the “mega-site” can eventually accommodate a total of eight chip factories as well as a growing number of suppliers and partners. The City’s reputation for public private partnerships, ability to fast-track construction, and investment in infrastructure factored heavily Intel’s site selection.
