Mount Carmel New Albany, the first healthcare system to invest in the City more than 20 years ago, has announced plans to open a new emergency department here this fall. The hospital is renovating more than 8,000 square feet of space on its first floor to accommodate the new ER as well as update other areas of the hospital. Mount Carmel New Albany, 7333 Smith’s Mill Road, was among the first organizations to anchor the New Albany International Business Park’s Health & Life Sciences industry cluster. The specialty hospital focuses on inpatient and outpatient orthopedic, neurologic, and musculoskeletal care with technologically advanced. It recently added women’s health services as well.
“No matter what our issue was, New Albany was always there to help us,” said Diane Doucette, president, Mount Carmel New Albany Health System. “That is top-notch service in my book. I can pick up the phone and call someone and they will help us in our time of need.”
The two-story facility includes 117,668 square feet, 60 patient rooms, and ten operating rooms. Other amenities include high-speed Internet access, full-service café with at-your-request room service, and flat screen television monitors and DVD players.
Originally founded in 2003 as a specialty orthopedic and neurosurgery hospital by a group of surgeons who also practice in New Albany, Mount Carmel New Albany was acquired by Mount Carmel in 2006. The 2011 expansion and the upcoming introduction of the emergency department underscore its commitment to adapt and grow to meet the community needs.
