Amgen, one of the world’s leading independent biotechnology companies, is constructing a $365 million biopharmaceutical manufacturing operation south of State Route 161 and west of Beech Road in The New Albany International Business Park. The first phase of the project includes the construction of a new 270,000-square-foot facility with a mix of manufacturing, packaging and office space. The state-of-the-art product assembly and packaging facility will utilize advanced digital automation and is expected to employ 400. Construction is slated for completion in June 2023.
New Albany’s growing Health and Life Sciences and High-Tech Manufacturing clusters, room for expansion and ability to fast track development were key factors in Amgen’s decision to invest in New Albany. Central Ohio’s robust bioscience, technology and engineering talent pool, post-secondary educational institutions and clinical research hospitals provide the right ingredients to fuel growth.
Amgen joins American Regent, formerly Pharmaforce, which planted the first stake in the Health and Life Sciences cluster here in 2013. Citing its central location and the area’s talent pool, Hims & Hers, a direct-to-consumer digital health and wellness company, recently built a new mail-order pharmacy and fulfillment center. The city is also home to Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital, the only specialty orthopedic surgical hospital in central Ohio focused on orthopedic, neurologic and musculoskeletal care.
