Plans for the Miracle League of New Albany, a nonprofit dedicated to providing safe, successful and fun adaptive baseball experiences, continue to take shape. The program provides a barrier free, accessible environment for children with developmental, physical and intellectual disabilities to experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. With programs across the country, each league offers a special outdoor field with a surface that can accommodate wheel chairs and children with special needs.
The nonprofit is raising funds for a state-of-the-art Miracle Field complex in New Albany that will include the specially-designed rubber turf baseball field, a handicap-accessible playground, parking lot and possibly a building on a five-acre site on Swickard Woods Boulevard. The city authorized a 10-year lease agreement with the New Albany-Plain Local Joint Parks District for a one-time fee of $10.
