A pedestrian-friendly village center and 30-miles of recreational hiking and biking trails connecting the community to the library, schools, restaurants, shopping and business park are among the features that reflect New Albany’s commitment to health and wellness. And with both a world-class orthopedic surgical hospital as well as health and wellness facilities, New Albany residents don’t have to go far to find excellent health care.

The community is also home to the New Albany Walking Classic which began with a group of walking enthusiasts in 2004 and now draws participants from across the country. With a course that meanders through the picturesque community, the non-judged, competitive walk has grown into the largest walking-only event in the United States.

In a continuing effort to promote health and wellness and engage the business community, the New Albany Community Foundation has launched the Healthy New Albany initiative, a series of health-related events and activities that include a farmer’s market, community gardens, speakers’ series, health expo and lunch ‘n learns.

Healthy New Albany
In a continuing effort to focus attention on the well being of both residents and employees, the New Albany Community Foundation created Healthy New Albany to promote healthful lifestyles for those who live and work in New Albany. The nonprofit offers a year-long series of health-related events and activities that include a farmer’s market, community gardens, speakers’ series, health expo, lunch ‘n learns and a walking club.

New Albany Walking Club
The New Albany Walking Club was established in 2003 by a former marathon runner and Ohio State University professor emeritus who discovered that walkers can achieve the same health benefits as runners without the toll on their bodies. Members of the walking club meet regularly to vigorously walk through the scenic trails and also attend seminars and training sessions. The club was the catalyst for the annual New Albany Walking Classic, a non-competitive walking race ranked the “best” in the nation by Walking Magazine.

Health & Wellness Center
Housed near the town center on the New Albany schools learning campus, Mount Carmel’s newest Health and Wellness Center provides residents with state-of-the art health care. The result of a partnership between Mount Carmel, New Albany-Plain schools and the New Albany Community Authority, the wellness center is recognized as a national model for integrating health care services into schools.

Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Center
The Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital is the only specialized orthopedic hospital in the Midwest. Focused on providing orthopedic, neurologic and musculoskeletal care, it is one of only two hospitals in Ohio and 32 in the nation to earn the Summit Award for sustained excellence in patient care. Each year, the hospital hosts more than 400 domestic and international visitors as well as 300 physician groups seeking to learn the latest procedures.
